Challenge:
The designers had to fit the 293 kW array of Hyundai 60-cell, PV modules within the available area. Local conditions required ground mount solar to meet 30 PSF ground snow load and 90 MPH wind load conditions.
Solutions:
RBI solar, Inc. designed the tilt-angle of the ground mount solar framing system for the array at 30 degrees. The RBI Solar team designed the solar mounting system to keep the elevation at the top of the modules approximately 8 feet from rough grade, accounting for terrain undulations.
Project Overview:
Country Meadows of Bethlehem completed a solar installation to supply approximately 23 percent of the retirement community’s energy needs. Annually this PV mounting system will save over 1.6 million pounds of carbon dioxide, the most abundant greenhouse gas. This is equivalent to removing over 140 cars from road.
RBI Solar, Inc. has provided solar racking systems for this project. This 293 kW solar farm will harvest about 348 MWh annually, or enough energy to offset the energy needs of about 32 homes.
RBI Solar used solar racking systems designed with frames consisting of posts and rafters. The frames supported two rows of modules installed in portrait orientation. Within a structural frame, each row of modules contained five solar modules. Structural steel purlins support the solar modules with top-clamps holding the modules in place.
RBI Solar Inc. provided the complete design, engineering, manufacturing, and shipping, of all the racking materials. Racking for this project was manufactured in RBI Solar’s Ohio manufacturing facility. On site, solar installation crews installed the foundations, structural frames, and the mounting system.
