Why wouldn’t you want to get the most life out of your air conditioner as possible? You’re just like everyone else, right? Air conditioners can be costly to repair, replace, and operate. Keeping them well-maintained is a necessity. Take care of them; they will server you well for a long time if you do. No doubt thousands of dollars will be saved over your lifetime by doing these simple steps.

No doubt air conditioners take a beating. We all know it. They can be pushed pretty hard under pretty severe conditions. Help neutralize all of those effects with regular maintenance on at least a yearly basis. Vigilence is rewarded with this, folks. If you want the best performance from your uinit, be sure to keep up on that regular maintenance schedule.

While trying to keep your air conditioner in tip top condition, there are a couple of tips that you will want to follow. They are as follows:

  • Look at the outside
Initially, youll want to ensure that the condensing unit isnt being covered, so that it can draw air into the cooling system to cool the insides of the home. Be sure to remove things that you’ve stored around the unit temporarily like bags of leaves, lawn furniture, etc.
  • Don’t wait for the last minute
Before you need your air conditioner, it may be a good idea to turn it on and let it run for a few minutes. Theres nothing worse than finding that your air conditioner isnt functioning properly on the sweltering days of summer. Check out how your air conditioner is running before the warm season, and beat the heat.
  • Air filters need changing regularly
Be sure to change your air filters regularly; they are vital to air conditioner maintenance. Blocked air filters significantly reduce air flow and bring down overall efficiency. Keeping clean filters not only will keep your home cooler, but it will also save you money on costly repairs.
  • Look for hose leaks
Inspect all hoses and connections for signs of damage or leaks twice a year at minimum. A good time to do this is just before turning it on for the summer and just before turning it off after the cooling season. By doing this you will be able to catch onto any problems before they get to be too serious for repair.
  • Have the ductwork cleaned by a professional every couple of years.
One of the best ways to save money and prolong the life of your air conditioner is to get the ductwork cleaned and maintained regularly.
  • Get a protective cover for your outside compressor unit for use during winter.
By doing this you will protect it from cold weather as well as harsh conditions such as snow and sleet. When you are buying your air conditioner, ask the installation company if they also have a cover that you can buy. This way you will always have a cover that fits your unit without hassle.

Keep cool cheaper and with less downtime and hassle by performing these simple maintenance steps. If you have any questions at all about air conditioner install Glenn Allen or heat pump service, don’t hesitate to click any link in this article for help.

I see a lot of Solar advocates here and in the media. I looked into it and found it impossible for me because of cost. I looked at a simple 3 Kilowatt, 16 Panel system which is tied to my electric company grid so all I produce just reduces my bill. The cost installed is about $20,000.

I did some research on life of equipment, hours of sunlight, etc., and figure I can only reliably get a max. of about 20 Kilowatt-Hours (KWH) a day 70-80 percent of the time, or about 5000-6000 KWH a year. I assumed a 10 year life of the equipment.

I pay about 10 cents/ KWH for my power, so the system will save me maybe $600/year.

This is rediculous. The system cost me $3000/year (2000 depreciation and 1000 interest @ 5%). The system will never pay itself off. Even if I cut the cost in half, it will not come close to reasonable power costs.

How can anyone promote this as a viable alternative? Maybe it will when power costs on the grid quadruple or more.
